Abraham, sitting by his tent flap in the heat of the day,
sees three strange men, welcomes into his tent
(a faint semblance to the magi, if I may stretch it in this season of Epiphany)
and soon realizes he’s in the presence of the Lord himself.
A promise confirmed
and an argument with the divine won.
And then there’s Sarah’s silent laughter of disbelief
a laughter that will become the name of her son.
A fearful denial
and a friendly rebuke from the Lord.
On the mount of transfiguration
the divinity of the delighted Son affirmed.
At Areopagus
minds challenged
and a few hearts transformed.
